Tim & Laura are co-owners of Cloud 9 Float Club. They’re passionate about health, wellness and mental wellbeing. In the words of Tim, “the quality of your mental health will largely determine the quality of your life.”

We’re excited about their new opening at The Welder on Welles Street opening 2nd November. So, we asked them a few questions to find out more about why they do what they do:

Tell us a bit about yourselves and your backgrounds.

Tim - I’m from the West Coast (the Best Coast) of the South island. I moved to Chch in year 11 to finish high school and then began a professional rugby career which I’m still pursuing with the Crusaders and Canterbury Rugby. I have two beautiful girls and love to travel!

Laura - I’m from Chch, am married to Tim and have two amazing daughters, Shylah 12 and Mylia 10. I have always loved sport, family, travel and business. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2012 which was the start of a tough few years but it also gave birth to the idea of Cloud 9 Float Club.

Why are you so passionate about what you do?

Tim - I saw what it did for Laura at her lowest and I know what it does for me weekly. It is my space to escape, think, rest, recover and grow and I love sharing it with as many people as I can.

Laura - I have always had a passion for helping others. When I found Flotation Therapy I just had to bring it back to NZ and Chch in particular. There are a lot of people struggling out there and I wanted to create a safe haven where people feel safe, comfortable and cared for.

What does a normal day look like to you?

Tim - Early start, meditation, breakfast with the family, off to rugby training, work at a cafe after training before coming home to chill with the girls!

Laura - Mum stuff, business stuff and running when I can!

What do you love about what you do?

For us, it’s about getting the best out of ourselves and others. We get one chance at life and we want to make the most out of it! Floating isn’t about the float itself, it’s about why we do it. It’ about what it does for our lives outside of the pod.

What philosophies do you live by?

Pressures makes diamonds

The obstacle is the way

Best the best version of you and help others be the best version of themselves!

Enjoy the small things in life

What is something that people don't know about you?

Lots! We’re both pretty private people. One thing would be we met when we were 13 years old and have been in love ever since!

Who inspires you?

Tim - Laura inspires me. I saw what she went through during her stem cell transplant and I see how much she cares for others.

You guys seem passionate about health and wellbeing. What are your top 5 tips for people who want to be more conscious about their own health and wellbeing?

The quality of your mental health will largely determine the quality of your life. Understand it, prioritise it and work on it.

Eat well, sleep well, exercise and feed the soul.

You are the sum of the 5 people you spend most of your time with so choose wisely!

What are your goals for Cloud 9 Float Club?

To be a space that the people of Chch just love to be. Whether it be weekly, monthly or whenever suits, people know we are there when they need us! To Float, To Relax, To Improve.

Final words of advice?

If you haven’t floated with us at Cloud 9 Float Club then come on in for a try. It really is incredible!
